What we collect
- Account info: your email, an optional name, and your password — hashed with bcrypt before it's ever stored. We can't see or recover your plain password, and neither can anyone who got into our database.
- Google sign-in: if you use "Continue with Google," we receive your Google account's email, name, and account ID. That's it — used only to sign you in and match you to your account.
- Your links: the destination URLs you shorten, your short codes, and any settings you choose (folders, expiry date, click limit, password protection).
- Click data: when someone clicks one of your links, we log the timestamp, the referring page (if any), the visitor's browser/OS string (user agent), and a basic device type (mobile, tablet, desktop, or bot). This is aggregate usage data for your dashboard — we don't build visitor profiles from it.
- IP address: not stored in our database. Your IP is used briefly, in server memory, to detect repeated failed login attempts (rate limiting) — it clears automatically after 15 minutes and is never linked to your account or click data.
Why we collect it
Every piece of data above exists to run the service: log you in, remember your links, redirect visitors to the right destination, and show you the click analytics you signed up to see. Nothing is collected for advertising, and nothing is collected "just in case it's useful later."
Cookies and sessions
SnipSnap sets one cookie — a session cookie that keeps you logged in. If you check "Remember me" at login, that same cookie sticks around for 30 days instead of expiring when you close your browser. There are no third-party advertising or tracking cookies on this site.
We never sell your data
Not to advertisers, not to data brokers, not to anyone. Your account info and click data are used to run SnipSnap for you, full stop.
Data retention
We keep your account and link data for as long as your account exists. Deleting a link from your dashboard also deletes the click history logged against it. Rate-limit data (see IP address, above) clears itself after 15 minutes and isn't retained beyond that.
Deleting your account or data
There's no self-service "delete my account" button yet. To request your account and all associated data be deleted, email contact@urlshortner.fun from the email address on your account, and we'll take care of it.
Children's use
SnipSnap isn't directed at children under 13, and we don't knowingly collect information from anyone under 13. If you believe a child has created an account or given us information, contact us at the address above and we'll remove it.
Changes to this policy
If this policy changes in any meaningful way, we'll update the "last updated" date at the top of this page. Continued use of SnipSnap after a change means you're okay with the update.
